Hamilton – New Zealand’s premier Southeast Asia Festival (https://seasia.co.nz/) returns to Hamilton for its second appearance on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at Claudelands Events Centre.
First introduced in Auckland in 2003, the festival has grown into a dynamic showcase of food, travel, culture, and fashion, promoting greater understanding of New Zealand’s evolving multicultural mosaic.
Festival goers can expect:
Authentic Southeast Asian cuisine — rare heritage dishes prepared exclusively for the festival, served from open stalls that let visitors watch traditional cooking techniques up close and capture countless “Instagrammable” moments.
Cultural showcases — traditional dance performances, live music, and fashion shows celebrating the region’s diversity.
Business and travel expo — connecting locals with Southeast Asian businesses, travel opportunities, and community organisations.
“Southeast Asia has always been an attractive destination for Kiwis — from its tropical climate and stunning beaches to its vibrant street food and cultural richness,” said festival organiser Mel Fernandez.
“After last year’s blockbuster launch, Hamiltonians can once again experience all of this in one place. This is more than just a festival — it’s a celebration of community and connection on a scale the city hasn’t seen before.”
The free event runs from 10am to 5pm and is expected to draw large crowds from across Waikato and beyond.
